Stevens students are diagnosing medical conditions in 8th grade Biology.
In Biology, Stevens 8th grade students are focusing on the Human Body Systems. Students were given case studies with real patients explaining their medical conditions in video recordings. For each scenario, the students heard from the patient and then more deeply explored relevant organ systems, such as the digestive, circulatory, excretory, and respiratory systems. The class explored the tests that the doctors completed and researched the symptoms being shared using their textbooks and the internet. They then discussed their preliminary diagnosis and came up with a proposed treatment plan. Some of the conclusions included GERDs, sinusitis, and a rare kidney condition. The students compared their findings with results from the doctors and felt validated and extremely knowledgeable when their diagnoses were confirmed!
