Math Enrichment (3rd-4th Grade) $150

Student-led projects will be designed to pursue an area of interest and may include multiplication exercises through fantasy football, or budget planning for an online ‘shopping spree.’

This class emphasizes a systematic, modern and fun game-based approach to tennis instruction. While improving hand-eye coordination, agility and racket-handling skills, students learn to execute strokes and sustain a rally using forehands, backhands, and volleys.

Classes give your child the opportunity to learn challenging and creative yoga poses, while maintaining a playful, fun class experience. Through games, props and songs, classes encourage kids to build self-confidence, physical strength and concentration. Partner poses, forwards bends, backbends, standing poses, twists, and basic inversions are explored with a light introduction to alignment. Children are encouraged to freely express their individuality while learning some basic yoga principles and having a blast.

Cooking (Kindergarten-2nd Grade) $180

Chefs will learn many different ingredients and techniques to make delicious treats. They will make dishes from scratch from different recipes while they learn about healthy eating habits.

Advanced Robotics (3rd-8th Grade) $150

Practice programming while making Dash and Dots sing, dance, move, and react to the environment around them! Using the Learn to Code Curriculum developed by Wonder Workshop, students will practice computational thinking and 21st century skills with Dash and Dot.

Performing Arts Drama (3rd-6th Grade) $200

This program is designed for youth/children with no experience, but easily incorporates and showcases students with previous training and skills. As with anything, fundamentals are the key; skill, growth and polish comes with time and experience. Age-appropriate materials, toe-tapping original music, a grounding in the classics, and great scripts help young students develop their passion for performance and communication.

LEGO Pre-Engineering (Kindergarten-1st Grade) $240

Lego Engineering and Construction classes explore architecture, engineering and technology. Students build a new project each week using LEGO® bricks and elements. The class provides a fun, hands-on learning and building experience focused on STEM concepts. The goal of this pre-engineering course is to provide a learning experience for children that encourages critical thinking, creativity, organizational skills, problem-solving, and teamwork.

Advanced GarageBand is for students that want to learn more about music production including recording techniques, engineering and musicianship. Students will record vocal, guitar, bass, drums, and piano tracks, through the use of GarageBand in order to record, mix and master their very own song. No previous experience required however, some of the work will be building on concepts introduced in Young Music Producers from Fall 2018.

Speech and Debate (5th-8th Grade) $240

The objective of this program is to prepare participants for situations that require formal and informal presentations. Participants will learn how to craft and present arguments, opinions and ideas. They will learn the fundamentals of rhetoric and will practice informing, persuading and motivating an audience in a variety of ways. The grading rubric was adapted with the permission of Neil Mercer, the Director of research and Head of Faculty at The University of Cambridge.

Beginner Chess (Kindergarten-2nd Grade) $200

This class is geared towards younger students or those who are learning chess for the first time. Chess rewards patience, attention to detail and strategic thinking. Students will learn the moves of the pieces, the rules of the game and the basics of tactics and positional play.

Students will explore the art of Rhetoric and Public Speaking through a number of games and project-based learning activities. Students will learn about the three pillars of rhetoric and how to apply them so that they may become confident persuasive speakers. This class will include: debate, impromptu speeches, informative speeches, persuasive speeches, critical thinking and fallacies in reasoning, improvisation, creative writing, speaker-audience commonality (identification), cold calls, counter arguments and more.

Students will improve their skills and build their love of the game through various drills designed to challenge and develop their passing, dribbling and shooting. Class will also emphasize team-building and good sportsmanship. Open to new and returning 3rd/4th grade players.

Hand Sewing and Fiber Arts (Kindergarten) $240

Students are introduced to hand sewing, weaving and fiber art crafts using embroidery thread, yarn, fabric and other related items. There will even be some limited highly supervised machine sewing to get kids ready for our 1st grade sewing class. Projects will include toys, accessories, wearable items, wall hangings, and more.

Students will improve individual skills as well as team working skills in this developmental class. Players will be taken through various exercises, drills and games to improve their basketball skills. This clinic will help prepare 1st and 2nd graders for their 3rd grade basketball experience.

Children will discover that the techniques used to analyze chess situations can also be used to grapple with puzzling questions in school and real life. Fashion Lab (1st-2nd Grade) $240

Students are taught basic sewing and design skills to create popular projects for each age group. Projects include fashion accessories/bags, clothing, stuffed animals, toys and home decor items. Students work on projects using a sewing machine as well as hand sewing using a needle and thread. Experienced stitchers will be challenged with new skills and projects.

Sportsmania (1st-2nd Grade) $175

Learn and develop skills in a variety of sports! Sportsmania allows students to improve their coordination while having fun and interacting with their peers. The class will choose which indoor/outdoor sports they would like to play each week.

In this Zumba inspired class, students will “Dance Around the World” in rocking, high-energy dance parties filled with kid-friendly routines and activities. Coding w/ Scratch! (2nd-6th Grade) $210

In this class, students ease into object-oriented programming concepts with Scratch, creating stories and interactive adventures with stackable code blocks! Ice Skating (3rd-8th Grade) **(Only 6 sessions)** $210

Come enjoy the outdoors and have fun practicing this timeless winter sport! Your child will practice skating skills, join in fun skating games and enjoy being active outdoors this winter. During this six-week mini special, students will have a half hour lesson lead by a trained and experienced Newport Skates instructor, followed by practice / free-skate time. *Requirements: Students must be able to ice skate without holding the walls. Students are required to bring their own states, skate guards they can walk in and a helmet. The class will meet on February 14, 21 and 28. A make-up class will meet on March 7, if necessary.
