A Message From the Board Chair:
Welcome to Stevens Cooperative School’s website! I hope that you take the time to surf around and discover all of the exciting things that are happening in our School’s 60th year.
As chair of the board of trustees, I am honored to serve a community of adults and children committed to progressive education, inclusion and collaboration. Our cooperative structure, vital to the operation of our school, gets and keeps parents involved in their children’s education.
When our daughter Noe entered Stevens in 2001, we weren’t quite sure what to expect. We were certain that we had made the best educational choice, but we were concerned that participating in the Cooperative might become an onerous chore. By the time our son Sam entered four years later, I was already an officer on the board of trustees, so I guess I had risen to the challenge!
While an elementary school where every family is “required to volunteer” may seem intimidating at first, parents here find that there is such a wide variety of cooperative jobs that they can devote as little or as much time to the task as they are able. I have always told my fellow parents that I have loved every job I have ever held in the Cooperative and it is true. It is an honor to serve an institution that you believe in so deeply, and that does so many wonderful things for children everyday. This section of our website is devoted to all the ways in which Cooperative members can participate in the life of our school. I'm sure you will find something that appeals to you.
