Samantha Hansen ‘05 - Interviewed Spring 2009
What has been the best thing about your high school experience?
I’ve had a great high school experience; I love the people, teachers, the classes and it’s been really good to be in a high school in New York City. But what’s surprised me is how I’ve come to appreciate the Quaker silent meetings which are held 2x a week. A quiet time to reflect, which I will really miss.
What have been some of your activities?
I love the theatre but I don’t act or sing, so I’ve been stage managing doing tech for musicals. It’s been a lot of fun. I also co-chair the Environmental Club and we’re currently working on a large project for Earth Day.
Share two things you learned at Stevens:
I got a good foundation in math and writing. I love math and Joy always made sure I got the help I needed and the extra work I wanted. I was surprised at how honed and developed my writing skills were.
What’s next for you, Samantha?
I had to choose between Yale and Georgetown for college. It was a tough decision, but I’m going to go to Yale.
What values were you holding that made you choose Yale?
Well I know they have a good history and political science programs which is where my interest is right now, but I also like the fact that Yale is divided into 12 colleges so it has a community feel to it. I’ve attended smaller schools and I like the community feel.
