Welcome to Stevens Cooperative School!
In my 14 years here, it remains one of my greatest joys to see the reaction of visitors to our school when they see our enthusiastic students, actively engaged in the busy-ness of learning and relating to one another. Visitors feel drawn into the classrooms and then compelled to linger. I trust that the welcoming faces on our website have enticed you into a virtual visit and we welcome your visit in person.
At Stevens, we recognize that all children come to us fully equipped to explore their world, make discoveries and connections and to challenge themselves and others to look under, behind and around everything they experience. As progressive educators, we accept, with pleasure, the responsibility of ensuring that the materials and experiences we provide continue to fan the flames of our students’ natural curiosity and creativity.
Our world changes at a pace that was beyond our imagination only a short time ago and trying to predict what technology and the work world will look like ten years from now is a pointless exercise. What we do know is that young adults will be most successful in our ever evolving world if they both possess and have practiced the use of a variety of tools and sound habits of mind – creative and critical thinking, the willingness to take risks, the courage to share an amazing idea and a strong opinion and the ability to respect and celebrate the differences in everyone they encounter. The faculty and staff at Stevens are dedicated to facilitating students’ problem-solving skills, collaborative endeavors and real dialogue and then stepping back to allow them to discover for themselves who they are and what they can do.
Enjoy a little taste of Stevens in this electronic format and, please, come back for more. Our students expect to share their insightful writing, their vibrant artwork, their favorite literature and, most importantly, their love of learning with you!
